Knee surgery on ACL
I recently had knee reconstruction surgery on my ACL. Your ACL or (anterior cruciate ligament) is one of the four major ligaments in the human knee. There are two bundles of the ACL the anteromedial and the posterolateral. The ACL attaches in the front of the tibia or (your shin bone) and to your knee bone. When you tear your ACL you experiance instant pain to what ever leg you tore it in. You probably won't be able to put very much prussure on it without experianceing some excrutating pain on the inside of your knee, for me the pain was on the inside of my knee but towards the back side of the leg. The only way to know for sure is to get an MRI so don't waste your time going to the emergency foom for an X-ray because they won't be able to see anything that is not bone so don't waste your time or your money. There are 3 different types of surgeys you can get done. The first involves them drilling a hole in to your tibia, your knee cap, and your femmer and attaching them all with steel hooks. As far as long term effectiveness this one you would not be able to kneel down on the knee and you will end up lossing 5% of total muscel in your quads. The second one envalves them cutting out a strong tendent from a dessest person and them placing it in where your ACL was, this one would allow you a little bit of a quicker recovery time then the other two but you run the risk of enfection becuse you are using the body parts of someone else. And the 3rd opption and the one that I went with is a prossess where they cut about a 3 inch cut in your leg so the can take out the old ACL and then they go in and cut out two of your 4 hamstrings trible knot them and place it back where the ACL was. The bad thing about this is you will end up losing 5% of your hamstring musle. After you have surgery it will hurt ALOT, so don't try to do anything that you don't feel llike you can untill you go to physical therapy, there the person will give you some exercises to do. MAKE SURE that you do all of your exercises don't skip out on a day this is a very major surgery and anything that you do now or don't do can effect the way you live your life for the rest of your life. You will have to wear a leg brace for 6 weeks after your surgery. During those 6 weeks just take it easy get used to walking on it don't do anything crazy. After the 6 weeks your still not completely healed yet you will still be going to therapy, It won't be till the 6 month period after your surgury before you can do sports again but it won't be untill around a full year before your the way you were before you got injured. So just relax you had to have this surgery if you wanted to play sports again so take it easy the year will be over with before you know it.
